Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC) announced that its Certech manufacturing site in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania produces H7, a high silica core material with a coarse particle size distribution and open pore structure, ideal for use in casting of highly technical aluminum structural parts in aerospace applications.

Compatible with most steel, copper and aluminum alloys, H7 is used most frequently for aluminum castings in which cores cannot be leached out chemically, so core removal is accomplished by water blast or a knockout operation. Aerospace manufacturers are switching to H7 to take advantage of the material’s ability to withstand the pressure of wax injection and dewax stress and still remain easy to wash out. Commercial and military applications using H7 include missiles and helicopters, as well as a variety of aircraft body parts, including doors and handles.

“Our unique H7 material is made of fused silica that has high porosity and tightly controlled properties,” said Paul Strasser, Sales Manager for MTC Certech PA. “The material’s extreme leachability makes it excellent for casting structural parts with small, long passageways, where it performs extremely consistently, permitting 100 percent removal of core material.”
